This weekend held reminders that things change. Our kids grow up. Life happens. It takes us down various paths.
Friday I put my 12-year-old on a bus to travel about 8 hours away to Space Camp. This is the second time in the last month that he’s gotten on a bus and gone somewhere for the weekend. Without Mom. Without Dad. He’s getting older. He’s learning responsibility. He’s finding his own interests. He’s figuring out where his path in life is leading. He’s soaking in the experiences and having a blast. Change happens.
Saturday I witnessed the marriage of a beautiful niece to a handsome young man. They’re a lovely couple. I’ve only been in the family to witness the last 15 years of this young lady’s life, but even that, she’s gone from middle school, to high school, to driver’s license, to college, to job, and now wife. Change happens.
We’re in November. The leaves are no longer green. The sun is not nearly as hot. It’s time for fall. A new season. Change happens.
I’ve run a couple of half marathons in the last month. The times were slower than a year ago, slower than 6 months ago. Change happens.
Sometimes change is fun. Sometimes change is scary. Sometimes change is necessary. But, change happens. Whether we like it or not.
In these times, I’m reminded “To everything there is a season; a time for every purpose under Heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1. And in Hebrews 1:10-12, we can be sure that our God remains. He never changes.
In these changing times, I’m reaching out to Him knowing He is my rock. He is my salvation. He knows the changes. He allows the changes. He has purpose in the changes. And He is with me through the changes.
What changes are happening for you right now? He’s reaching out His hand to you to walk with you. Will you grab on?
